Solar Energy Tour

Cheq Bay Renewables is teaming up with the UW-Extension Ashland County to present its 4th annual solar tour.  It is expanding this year to include two days of open sites.  The 2019 solar tour will be held on September 28th and 29th. Sites in Ashland County will be highlighted on Saturday September 28th and sites in Bayfield County on Sunday the 29th.  More details about each site can be found be clicking on the links below (a few are forthcoming, so check back soon).  Here is the list of sites, addresses and their unique attribute and well as our poster and card.  The card contains a simplified map of the sites.

Ashland Sites – Saturday, September 28th, Noon – 4pm
  1. Xcel Energy - Community Solar Garden   
    1. Where:  2400 Farm Rd, Ashland
    2. What:  1mW installed by OneEnergy Renewables
    3. Why (unique feature):  Community Solar, utility scale
  2. Bad River Band of Lake Superior Chippewa – Air Monitoring Research Site
    1. Where:  Hwy. 2 and Maple St, Odanah (then follow signs to site behind food sovereignty building, Google maps not accurate)
    2. What:  3.3kW ground mount installed by Bad River Department of Resources Staff
    3. Why (unique feature):  Air monitoring research site, workforce development
  3. Sheila Mitchell and Clair Morud – Residence
    1. Where:  65722 Lake Park Rd, Ashland (enter from west only, Google maps not accurate)
    2. What:  8.4kW roof mount installed by Let it Shine Energy Services
    3. Why (unique feature):  Lakeside home, gardens and small greenhouses
  4. Deb & Jeff Lewis – Residence
    1. Where:  722 Chapple Av, Ashland
    2. What:  3.78kW roof mount installed by Next Energy Solution
    3. Why (unique feature):  Challenging site with SW orientation and shading, small residential system
  5. Griggs Cattle Company – Pam & Toby Griggs
    1. Where:  60435 Maple Ridge Rd, Ashland
    2. What:  16.2kW ground mount RTI provided by Next Energy Solution
    3. Why (unique feature):  Installed by owner, grass-fed beef operation
  6. Wild Hollow Farm – Melissa and Jason Fischbach
    1. Where:  42395 Berweger Rd, Ashland
    2. What:  8.64kW wooden ground mount RTI provided by Next Energy Solution
    3. Why (unique feature):  Installed by owner, commercial greenhouses and cut flower operation

Washburn Sites – Sunday, September 29th Noon- 4pm
  1. City of Washburn - Waste Water Treatment Plant
    1. Where:  West Bigelow St. at 10th Ave West, Washburn
    2. What:  100kW ground mount installed by Eagle Point Solar
    3. Why (unique feature):  Large commercial system, economics and financing unique
  2. Greg & Diane Tetzner – Residence
    1. Where:  30545 Nevers Rd, Washburn
    2. What:  6.7kW metal ground mount installed by Next Energy Solution
    3. Why (unique feature):  Expandable installation, “Electrician Ready” installation, second Tetzner site (Kevin & Jackie) across the street
  3. Robert Drevlow – Residence
    1. Where:  29905 Nevers Rd, Washburn
    2. What:  5.6kW IronRidge ground mount RTI provided by Next Energy Solution
    3. Why (unique feature):  Installed by owner,  site owner is retired Xcel & CESA 10 employee
  4. Roy Settgas – Residence
    1. Where:  75405 Church Corner Rd, Washburn
    2. What:  11.16 wooden ground mount RTI provided by Next Energy Solution
    3. Why (unique feature):  Installed by owner, also has solar thermal, retired solar thermal installer
  5. Hungry Hill Farm – Wendy Stein and Phil Freeman
    1. Where:  77015 W. Maple Hill Rd, Washburn
    2. What:  3.1kW adjustable ground mount installed by Next Energy Solution
    3. Why (unique feature):  Adjustable mount, moving greenhouse and vegetable farm, modest energy consumption
  6. Pat Juett and Ulf Gafvert - Residence
    1. Where:  77100 Big Rock Rd, Washburn
    2. What:  5kW roof mount installed by Let it Shine Energy Services
    3. Why (unique feature):  Lovely gardens, greenhouse, solar on sauna rooftop,  pottery studio
