Our Shared Planet

Jim Ramsdell is an award winning wildlife artist. His organization, Our Shared Planet, is a traveling exhibit dedicated to raising awareness of the importance of the natural world. The Our Shared Planet solar powered trailer featured in the photo serves as Jim's workshop, traveling exhibit of his work, and mobile classroom for demonstrations.

The solar electricity generated is used to power Jim’s saws, grinders, Dremel tools, wood burning pens, and lighting needed to create his sculptures. He stores the extra energy generated in batteries so that he can work at night or on cloudy days.

Jim states, "The solar system I installed on my trailer/workshop truly exceeds my expectations of how well it would work. I often run a cord to the house and run the refrigerator to use up the surplus power. It is a real joy to know that you are not plugged into anything but the sun. That allows me the freedom to work along a beautiful lake shore, or wherever I choose. With the battery system I can often work four to five days without sunshine. Sure there are times I have to be conservative, but isn't that a lesson we can all stand to learn?"
