Area renewable energy and energy efficiency projects get funding from Wisconsin’s Office of Energy Innovation (OEI)
Three area organizations received funding awards yesterday from Wisconsin’s OEI. Bayfield County, Bay Area Rural Transit Commission (BART) and Northland College.
Bayfield County’s project is for 110kWh of battery storage and two EV level-2 charging stations at the Washburn Highway Garage. The battery system, new backup generator being installed this summer, and existing solar PV will be combined to form the county’s second microgrid to support critical infrastructure. The charging stations will be used to support the upcoming county’s EV fleet. The grant will cover $225,000 of the estimated $303,000 project.
BART’s project includes 52kW of new rooftop solar PV for their headquarters in Ashland. The estimated $89,000 project will be funded by $56,000 from the OEI. BART also hopes to apply for Focus on Energy funding.
Northland College submitted two applications. The first is an energy efficiency project to upgrade a HVAC system and the second, which was partially funded, is for a geothermal system and 14.4kW of solar PV.
46 projects were funded throughout the state totaling $10 million in grant funding. Read the OEI press release here, and a list of recipients here.
