North Wind Organic Farm and Residence
North Wind Organic Farm has been "off the grid" since 1982. Electricity is generated through a combination of a wind turbine and solar PV and is stored in a battery system. Aside from a couple of cloudy, windless days, this covers all of the farm's energy needs. A gas generator is used as backup for their refrigeration system and accounts for 2-4% of the total energy. North Wind also has an electric cultivating tractor and two other vehicles.
