Unique Community-oriented Solar Projects
Two locally well-known nonprofit organizations have a unique opportunity to “go solar”. The New Day Advocacy Center and The BRICK have been donated free solar modules from OneEnergy Renewables, the developer of Xcel Energy’s community solar garden in Ashland, WI. 35, 325-watt tier 1, 72-cell solar modules have been donated and are being divided between the two organizations.
Besides the solar modules, a complete solar installation includes additional equipment, primarily an inverter, but also electrical wire, conduit, disconnects and the labor to put the whole thing together. Jolma Electric of Ashland has stepped up to the plate and proposes to install the installations at their material cost, and is donating labor to the project as well. Another local company, C&S Design has offered to do their engineering work for half price, further reducing the installation costs. OneEnergy and Cheq Bay Renewables have offered trained volunteers to assist in the installations as well.
The goal of the project is to get the solar installation complete without any cost to New Day Advocacy Center or The BRICK. Donations are being accepted to pay for the balance of the system.
A GoFundMe site has been setup for New Day with a goal to raise $6,800 which would fully fund the project. This is an exciting opportunity for our community to come together and show support for both organizations, advance generation of clean energy and reduce long-term expenses so more money is available for their missions.
